LINCOLN, IL - Laura Louise Slayton, 79, passed away on at 8:21 p.m., March 8, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.
Laura was born on Sept. 22, 1934, in Lincoln, Ill., daughter of James and Beulah F. Rose Harris. She married Lloyd Slayton, Sr., on Aug. 17, 1951. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2002.
Also surviving are her children, Laura D. Slayton of Lincoln; Lloyd "Ed" (Bridget) Slayton, Jr., of Lincoln; Cynthia (Tim) Jackson, of Lincoln; Roger Slayton, of Middletown; one brother, Jim (Ardella) Harris, Jr., of Mo.; two sisters, Faye Jones, of Wisc., and Kay Petro, of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Pat Harris, of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Christina (Kyle, Jr.) Alexander, of Lincoln, Brad Slayton of Fla., Erika (Damon) King, of Texas, Nicole (David) Cintron, of Texas, Rachael (Janson) Seach, of Okla., Megan Jackson, of Lincoln, Tim Jackson, Jr., of Lincoln, and Katie Slayton, of Lincoln; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bub and Aaron Harris, a sister, Eva Hill, and a sister-in-law, Elaine Harris.
Laura was a member of the Lincoln Christian Church. She will also be best remembered for her annual Easter party held for family and friends along with her homemade orange cake.
Services for Laura will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Fricke Calvert Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln with Tracy Thomas officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014, also at the funeral home. Burial at Zion Cemetery will follow the service.
