About Iowa

Iowa, a major agricultural state in the Midwestern region of the United States, is bordered by the Missouri and Big Sioux rivers on the west and the Mississippi River on the east. The state is home to four Division 1 college teams – the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Drake University and the University of Northern Iowa. Herbert Hoover, the 31st president of the United States, hailed from Iowa, as did five Nobel Prize winners. Iowa’s attractions include six covered bridges that furnished the setting for Robert James Waller’s novel “The Bridges of Madison County,” which was adapted into the movie and Broadway musical of the same name.
