About Maine

Maine, the easternmost state in the contiguous United States, is known both for its beautiful forested landscape and its incredible shellfish. It is the nation’s biggest harvester of lobsters, accounting for about 50 percent of the U.S. lobster supply, and also produces a significant portion of America’s blueberries. Boasting an extensive border with Canada, Maine has the highest percentage of French-speaking Americans in the country. Its nickname is “The Pine Tree State,” and the historic Appalachian trail terminates at Maine’s Mount Katahdin. The state’s most famous son: author Stephen King, a longtime resident of the city of Bangor.
