Victor Coleman Obituary

Victor Vincent Coleman joined Jesus in heaven on February 16, 2013 at the age of 87. Vic was the 5th of 7 children born to Valentine Victor Coleman and Julia Kirbyson Coleman on November 27, 1925 in Kelseyville, CA and raised in Lower Lake.
During high school years Vic worked at Hoberg's Resort and Willet's service station in Lower Lake - starting at 25 cents an hour. After graduation from Lower Lake Union High School he joined the Merchant Marines - starting out as a "wiper" in January 1944. He spent 40 years on the ocean seeing many parts of the world. His ships took 20 trips to Vietnam and 135 trips through Panama Canal (he never tired of it). He was in 3 wars - WWII, Korean, Vietnam. His ships carried everything from beer to bombs during wartime. In 1988 he was proud to receive Veterans status for his time served during WWII. Vic worked his way up to Merchant Marine Chief Engineering Officer and retired from American Foreign Steamship Corp.
Vic was an avid baseball fan - attending spring training in Surprise, Arizona for many years. After several years in Alameda he moved to The Vintage in Lodi the day it opened in June 1998. Vic was a kind and caring person - enjoyed telling jokes and helping people. He enjoyed going to Dee Dee's for breakfast - a fun place for him. Vic was a member of Lodi Avenue Baptist Church - he was thankful for his church family.
Vic is survived by his son Phil Coleman (Los Gatos), daughter-in-law Coleen Coleman (San Jose), sister Vera Boriack (Lodi) and brother Franklin Coleman Sr (Tennessee). Nieces, Dianne Hill, Darlene Stewart, Chris Boriack (caregiver), Jenny Lasky, Sandi Rogers, Janette Brewer. Nephews, David Stewart, Richard Francisco, Robert Francisco, Val Francisco, Rod Boriack, James Coleman, Franklin Coleman Jr and Ken Coleman. Friend Lloyd Deffenbaugh.
He was preceded in death by son Michael Coleman (2006), sisters, Margaret Hodges (1991), Marjorie Francisco (2008), Florence Miles (2002); brother, Valentine Coleman (2004); nephews, Dennis Stewart (1994) and Marc Boriack (2010).
In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials - Lodi Ave Baptist Youth, 2301 W. Lodi Ave, Lodi CA 95242 or NCIRE, 4150 Clement St (151NC), San Francisco CA 94121 (Veterans heart research).

Not sure what to say?

Victor was my great, GREAT uncle, the greatest uncle ever. I cherrish the time durring summer vacations spent with him as does my little sister, Adrienne. The memories and photos are very dear to my heart. Just the sweetest kindest loving man you could be lucky enough to know.

Vic bought donuts, once a week, for the residents at The Vintage for several years. At Christmas he always gave us a big box of chocolates. He was always appreciative of any little thing you did for him. Will always remember Lloyd and him watching baseball. He truly belongs in the Baseball Fan Hall of Fame.

It was such a sad day when I heard of the passing of my dear Great Uncle Victor-I wish I could be there to celebrate the amazing man he was. I have many happy memories of him and our drives through the hills of California in his convertible.
When I last saw him, he reminded me of the time we were walking hand in hand through a theme park when I was just a kid. He asked if I wanted ice cream and I looked up at him and told him I had everything I wanted. That is just how sweet this man was. They simply do not make them any better than Uncle Victor. He will forever be in my heart.

What a precious man...Our family enjoyed many a meal with Vic and his dear friend Lloyd. He watched our son and nephew grow up and encouraged their baseball aspirations. Vic, we will miss seeing you on our trips back to Lodi. God's number one baseball fan has made his way home.

We first met Vic at Rio Los Palmas in Stockton in the '90s, then joined him at
The Vintage on the day it opened in 1998. Vic always enjoyed my organ playing there. Always happy to see him at DeeDee's before it closed. I will certainly miss Vic.
