Joe Walker Obituary

Joe D. Walker, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 3, 2012, while doing what he loved best, working in his garden. He was born on August 31, 1926, to Moffatt and Ada Walker in Clarita, Oklahoma. He attended school through 10th grade and enlisted in the U.S. Navy-C.B.'s at the young age of 17. He served during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Joe came to Salinas in the mid 1930's and worked in farming. He then moved to Lodi in 1951 and worked at General Mills for 38 years, retiring from the Preventative Maintenance Department. He was a member of the General Mills Grain Millers Local #59. Joe was a faithful member of New Hope Community Church, S.I.R.S., Lodi Moose Lodge, Okinawa Club, New Hope Luncheon Group, and the General Mills Breakfast Club, which he founded. He enjoyed trapshooting at the Moose Lodge, fishing, and hunting. He also loved working in his vegetable gardens, his roses, and especially his dear avocado tree, which was blessed with an abundance that he shared with family and friends. Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Eudine Kyrkendal, son, James Walker, brothers, Moffatt and Chester Walker, sisters, Irene Patton, Minnie Patton, Jewell Stubblefield, and Genevie Stinson, and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Violet Weisser-Walker of Lodi, brother, Art (Linda) Walker of Modesto, sisters, Leota Keener and Zelda Ridley of Oklahoma, stepdaughter, Debra (Ken) Watters, loving niece whom he raised when she was a child, Vicki (Bob) Weidner, granddaughters, Kathy Walker of Oregon and BreeAnn (Gary) Lundmark of CA, grandsons, Jim (Darlene) Walker and Mike (Millie) Walker of Oregon, great grandchildren, Little Jay Walker, Matthew and Hillary Cook of Oregon, Ava and Emma Lundmark of CA, sister-in-law, Oleta Walker and brother-in-law, Dick Stinson of CA, along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews that he loved dearly. Friends are invited to visit on Saturday, December 8, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday, December 9, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held on Monday, December 10, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with committal to follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Community Church, 330 S. Fairmont Ave., Ste. 1, Lodi, CA 95240. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
