Longtime Lodi resident, Catherine M. Bauer, passed away February 21, 2013, at the age of 91. She was born on August 17, 1921, in Iowa to the late Harry and Elizabeth Brakel. Catherine spent her childhood on a farm in Heaton, North Dakota. She married Harry Bauer on December 16th, 1937. Catherine and Harry moved from North Dakota to Lodi in 1945, with their two children, Monte and Jonell. They remained together 52 years until Harry's death in 1989. Catherine worked hard, not only as a homemaker, but in a local laundry service and later, for many years, as a school bus driver for LUSD. She attended First Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Alanon. "One Day at A Time" was her way of living. She enjoyed every minute of every day. She made sure that no time was ever wasted. She enjoyed crafts, playing cards, Bingo & Bunco. The love Catherine had for people was endless, and she kept busy with family and friends throughout her entire life. Catherine is survived by her two children: Monte Bauer and Jonell McVey (Denny), both of Lodi four grandchildren: Michael Bauer, Karyn Battershell (Rick), Teri Booth (Bill), and James Colson (Lisa). She was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Devan McClaine, Katy McClaine, Christian Bauer, Samantha Booth and Lindsey Booth and two great-great-Grandchildren: Paizly and Reef Ravazza. Catherine is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Bauer, all of her siblings: Henry Brakel, Burton Brakel, John Brakel, Hyna Brakel and MaryAnn (Brakel) Tubbs, and her longtime companion and dear friend, Art Bonnet. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, February 27, at 1 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. There is no visitation, and committal is private. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangement.
