Eunice Claire (Crawford) Kitchens Stewart

Eunice Claire Crawford Kitchens Jewart passed away January 12, 2014. She was born in Stockton, Ca to Oliver and Agnes Muller Crawford. Eunice was a dynamic woman who made a difference in this world. Having a clean, well organized home was a total waste of time for Eunice. Instead, she spent her time creating a legacy that would far out live her life on earth. Painting, teaching water color, framing pictures, sewing, canning, gardening, knitting, needle point, embroidery, crochet, flower arranging, cake decorating, upholstering furniture and baking occupied her time and energy. There was nothing she could not do with her hands. She won several blue ribbons for her paintings and handwork at the county fair. She was most happy when she was surrounded by her children, grand children and numerous friends while up to her elbows in a creative mess. Conversation and laughter came easy to Eunice. When visiting you would often find a paint brush thrust into your hand with color pallet of paints placed in front of you. Enjoying the sunrise and sunsets were a daily delight. Color and shadow, theater and classical music thrilled her soul. She loved fairies, gnomes and sparkle of every kind. Her fried chicken, crepes, waffles and cookies were wonderful. Eunice's door was always open and she had a pot of coffee going or if you preferred there was always a proper cup of tea in a beautiful teacup with cookies and pretty napkins. Her sense of humor and positive outlook on life were her strongest assets. She had many wonderful friends and extended family that brought her great joy particularly her dear cousins. Eunice worked as a social worker at San Joaquin General Hospital. She developed and managed Singleman's Home, a convalescent home for indigent men and she was admitting supervisor at the hospital for many years. She was active in PTA, 4-H, Jobs Daughters, Eastern Star, Lodi Pen Women, Lodi and Stockton Art League. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughters, Claire Mills, Denise (Steven) Kost, Samantha (Jerry) Towne. Step children, JoAnn Atkinson, Butch (Terry) Jewart and David Johnson. She has numerous grandchildren and great grand children. A celebration of life will be held for Eunice at Grace Presbyterian Church 10 North Mills Ave Lodi Ca at 12:30 PM on Wednesday January 15, 2014. Reception to follow at a second location. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin.
