Hardial Singh Johal, age 86, passed away on January 21, 2013. Mr. Johal was born in the village of Jandiala, in the district of Jullunder, Punjab, India to Naranjan Singh Johal and Karmi Kaur Johal on September 20, 1926.
He immigrated to the United States in 1950 and was sponsored by his grandfather Pal Singh Mahal, who entered the United States in the early 1900's. He became a United States Citizen and, thereafter, he and his wife, Awtar Kaur Johal, sponsored numerous relatives to the United States.
He is survived by his three sons, Sarjit Singh Johal, Munjit Singh Johal, and Jugjit (Jack) Singh Johal, his daughters in-law, Jasbir Kaur Johal and Sheila Kaur Johal; his (six) grandchildren, Kiran Johal, Karanjit Singh Johal, Kiira Jeet Johal, Kirti Johal, Peter Singh Johal, and Kostantino George Singh Johal. He is also survived by his sister in-law Jito Kaur Sahota and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Johal is preceded in death by his wife, Awtar Kaur Johal, and his in-laws Bawa Singh Shergill, Sadhu Singh Shergill, Jarnail Singh Shergill, Gurmail Singh Shergill, and Amaro Kaur Shergill. Viewing is open to the public on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, located at 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, California.
A register book may be signed at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery, located at Hwy 99 and Harney Lane and continues immediately thereafter at the Lodi Sikh Temple located at the corner of West Lane and Armstrong Road, Lodi, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation.
