Hazel Juanita Sweat, 83, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on May 3, 2013. She was born to parents Bert and Lela Scott in El Reno, Oklahoma on July 15, 1929. Hazel was the eldest of four children.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Jack and Paul; She is survived by her sister Coleen McDaniel of Stockton, CA. She spent her childhood in Bakersfield and then spent the rest of her life in the Lodi area.
Hazel married her one and only true love George Sweat on July 3, 1947. Known by their friends and family as "Pud and Harrison," the enjoyed fifty-nine blissful years of marriage before George passed. They loved taking their children and grandchildren on annual family vacations to Santa Cruz. After retirement, they enjoyed camping in Kingsburg. Hazel will be remembered for her famous back rubs and big belly laughs. She was a source of love and devotion to all her family.
Hazel was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Lodi and Brea Baptist Church in Morada. She worked for Woolworth's, Cottage Bakery and Burson's Egg Ranch but her life's focus was always on her family. She is survived by her two loving sons, George Sweat, Jr. (wife Patti) of Bakersfield, CA and Rick Sweat (wife Debbie) of Lodi, CA; four grandchildren Todd Osterman (wife Beth, daughters Camille and Chloe) of Lodi, CA; Steven Sweat (wife Christina, sons Austin and Justin) of Sparks, NV; and Teresa Mendoza (daughters Brooklyn and Liliana) of Lodi, CA; Jamie Cox of San Diego.
Graveside service Wednesday at 10 a.m. will be private. There is no visitation and the Donahue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
