Kenneth Alan Israel, 65, passed away on April 29, 2013 at his home in Stockton, CA. He was born on January 27, 1948 in San Francisco, CA to Arthur and Jane (Levy) Israel.
Ken was born and raised in San Francisco. He graduated from George Washington High School in San Francisco in 1966. After high school he attended San Jose State University where he received a degree in health education. He served in the Coast Guard and reserves. Ken dedicated 38 years to education. He taught for more than 30 years at Tokay High School in Lodi, CA where he also served as Athletic Director, Student Government Advisor, and Head Track Coach.
Ken married Laura in 1970 in Stockton, CA. They were happily married for 42 years. He was especially close to his mother-in-law, Helen Ries, with whom he shared a passion for Giants baseball. His dedication to the Giants began when he skipped school and attended the very first Giants game played in San Francisco. His devotion to the team was rewarded with two World Series championships in the last three years. He also enjoyed Stanford athletics, 49ers football, track and field, concerts, sports memorabilia and spending time with his family and two dogs.
Ken is survived by his wife Laura of Stockton, CA: his son, Gregory Israel and his wife Kate; his daughter, Kari Israel; his daughter, Jennifer Dietrich and her husband Tobin; his sister-in-law, Judy Rafert; his nephews, Peter and Matthew Rafert; his niece, Susan Rafert; and other relatives.
