Louis was born into the pioneering Rodgers family on Roberts Island in the San Joaquin Delta on April 24, 1928. Son of Americo Mello and Marion Rodgers, Louie attended Stockton schools and farmed from the age of sixteen. He met his sweetheart, Millie Giannini, and they were married in 1949. They were together for almost 65 years.
In 1957 they moved to Brack Track on Woodbridge Road in Lodi where Louie continued farming. He expanded the operation to include his son, Scott. Louie loved his family, and his ranch, and his dogs.
During his life, he was a member of Club Portuguese Stockton California (CPSC), PFSA, Roberts Union Farm Center, Delta Water users, California Asparagus Growers, San Joaquin Valley Hay Growers, and a Trustee of Brack Track Reclamation District. In his younger years, he was a proud member of the Delta Riders ("Tulerooters"). He was a long-time member of St Anne's Catholic Church in Lodi.
He is survived by his loving wife, Millie; daughter, Celeste (Robert Bordner); son, Scott; four grandchildren, Leah, Vanessa, Aaron, and Amy; and five great-grandchildren. Louie also leaves his sister, Helen Lima Balcao; three nieces; and numerous Rodgers cousins.
