Regina G. Wiegand, age 95, of Ft. Myers, FL, died February 19 in Ft Myers, FL after a two-month illness.
Regina was born in New York City on May 31, 1917. When she was 4 years old the family returned to their native Germany. The family returned to the United States permanently in 1929.
In the late thirties, Regina married John, and they lived in New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY until 1952, when they moved to North Valley Stream, Long Island, NY. After John's death in 1986, Regina moved to Lodi, CA, to be with her sister's Nilssen family. She remained in Lodi for ten years, before returning to the East Coast to live with her older son, Richard, and his family in Millersville, MD. In 2007, Regina moved into an independent living facility called Riderwood, in Silver Spring, MD. Finally, in August of 2012, she chose to live with her daughter, Mady, in Fort Myers, FL.
Both Regina and John loved music. Regina often sang while John played the family's baby grand piano. They both belonged to the Hempstead, N.Y. Liederkranz (singing society). Regina loved to travel and made many trips to several continents including the Antarctic. She enjoyed playing bridge and was actively playing within a month of her death. She also loved spending time with her family.
Regina was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Wiegand, her younger son, John C. Wiegand, and four sisters, Annie Lindstaedt, Elsbeth Pope, Eleonore Nuth, and Ernestine Nilssen.
Regina is survived by her son, Richard (daughter-in-law Louise) Wiegand of Millersville MD; daughter, Mady Teeple of Fort Myers, FL; two grandsons, Michael (Cindy) Wiegand of Millersville; Jeffrey (Erika) Wiegand, of Mount Airy; granddaughter Christine Lodowski, of Millersville; daughter-in-law Jane Wiegand, grandsons Jake Wiegand, and Kurt Wiegand of Herndon, VA and seven great grandchildren.
Regina's Lodi family, niece Barbara Nilssen (Bob) Schwartz, nephews, Michael (Jackey) Nilssen, Hank (Lynn) Nilssen and their family's will greatly miss their beloved Tante Regina.
A Memorial Service and celebration of Regina's life is planned for May 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD, followed internment at St. Raymond's Cemetery 2600, Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, New York City, NY.
