Valentin M. Gamez, 87, of Woodbridge passed away with his children and grandchildren by his side on March 18, 2014. He was born in Santa Rosa, Texas on November 3, 1926 to Miguel and Espetacion Gamez, the eldest of 18 children. He was raised in Mexico. On July 18, 1964 he married Angelica Rodriguez. Valentin moved to Woodbridge in 1979, where he lived the rest of his life. From a young age he worked in the fields traveling from Texas to Fresno to Lodi. He also worked for Tri Valley Growers in Thornton, CA . Valentin loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren especially taking them for walks. He loved working in his garden planting tomatoes, squash, cactus, and avocadoes. He enjoyed the company of his long time friends. Valentin loved eating homemade Tortillas that his wife made him 3 times a day with a side plate of refried beans. Valentine always had a BIG smile on his face and was a very kind hearted person.He was a member of Saint Anne's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his children, Maria (Javier) Lopez, of Lodi, Miguel Gamez, of Lodi, Marsha Gamez, of Woodbridge, Maria Luisa Gamez, of Fresno, Valentin Gamez Jr, of Fresno, Irma Nunez, of Fresno, and Norma Gamez of Fresno; 31 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Carmen and Mercedes Gamez, of Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Angelica Gamez; and his brothers and sisters.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday, March 25 from 10am-8pm at Lodi Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held on Tuesday, at 7pm at Lodi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00am at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Committal will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
