Joseph Petitt of Lodi, CA, passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2014. He was born in Ashland, KY, one of five children to Ruby and Chester Petitt on May 12, 1940.
The Guest Book is expired.
Joe worked in many fields throughout his career including: a floral shop, ice-cream parlor, fire fighting in the U.S. Air force, fire prevention with the U.S. Forest Service, reserve police officer in Lodi, CA, and as a deputy sheriff in Plumas County, CA. Joe also worked 42 years with the Union/Western Pacific Railroad as a Switchman, Foreman, Yardmaster, Train master, Terminal Supt., Conductor and Brakeman. He retired in 2002.
During his lifetime Joe enjoyed fishing and spending time in the outdoors. He loved working in his garden, and just sitting on the back porch enjoying the company of family and friends. His most prized possessions were his family and his dog, which he loved more than anything. His listening ear and open heart were there for everyone, especially his grandchildren. He always ended every conversation with, "I'm here if you need to talk." plus a hug and a kiss. Those who knew Joe knew him to be a man with a great sense of humor and a true southern gentleman. We will miss his unique figures of speech and funny stories.
Surviving Joseph are his beloved wife of 54 years, Louise; his sister Linda Cline; children – Gary (Pamela), Brian, Randy (Traci), and Sherri Louie Petitt; and grandchildren- Courtney, Brittney, Zachary, Summer, Jonah, Sarah, Brenna, and Kalie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers David and Bill, as well as his sister Caroline.
A graveside service will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 at 10 am at Cherokee Memorial Park in the Garden of Angels, Harney Lane and Hwy 99. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of San Joaquin.
