Lloyd Hittle Obituary

Lloyd Eldon Hittle, Sr. (1924-2012), resident of Lodi, crossed home plate into heaven on March 3, 2012. He was the loving husband to Bernice Hittle for 65 years, and beloved father of three children: Gerald (Mary), Joanne (Jimmie), and Lloyd Jr. (Gayle). Dearest Poppo to Marc, David (Caresse), Dusti (Zak), Sandi, Jeremy (Sandra), Rachel, and Amy (Steve). Great-Grandfather to Marcus, Akayla, Haylee, and Cody. Lloyd was born in Acampo and lived his life in the Lodi area. He served the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He played professional baseball 1946-1954 for the Stockton Ports, Oakland Oaks, Bremerton Bluejackets, Washington Senators, Chattanooga Lookouts, and the Hollywood Stars. He later played semi-pro ball with Lodi Guild Wine. He worked thirty years for Pacific Telephone while he and Bernice raised their family. Lloyd loved the outdoors, and family vacations usually were spent camping and fishing. After retirement, Lloyd and Bernice enjoyed years of RVing and fishing, spending long summers at Lake Almanor. In recent years he enjoyed signing autographs at the annual Stockton Ports Alumni Games. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him, but most especially by his big dog "Brew". There will be a viewing Thursday, March 8, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rocha's Mortuary, 215 South School Street, Lodi, CA. Online guest book available at www.Lodifs.com. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m. with a viewing at 12:00 noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 731 N. Ham Lane, Lodi CA.

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

Russ & Audrey Lee

April 6, 2012

Our deepest condolences go out to Bernice and family. Russ & I feel so privileged and honored in meeting and getting to know Lloyd. He was such a special person and we know that each of you are feeling this loss so deeply. We only wish there were words we could say or something we could do to help ease the pain.We would like to share a couple of memories with you. When we first purchased our house, the very first people to come and welcome us to the neighborhood were Lloyd and Bernice. It was such a warm welcome, they brought us a beautiful plant that sits in our garden. They often invited us to their special family get-togethers and we were always made to feel like a part of the family.. that meant so much to us. When we would go to visit, Lloyd would usually be working on a jig-saw puzzle and Bernice would be helping him to fill in the pieces. Lloyd was always working on something, and he was quite the craftsman. He created beautiful hanging rug tapestries and they still hang on their walls. Lloyd would see Russ working on something in the lawn and he was always ready to lend a hand or some very helpful advice. What a great man.. and what a great loss. Again, our deepest condolences and heart felt sympathy.

Hittle Family:
I am so sorry for your loss. I remember playing wiffle baseball in your backyard and Mr. Hittle always was helping with my batting swing. He also helped coach Gary and I in Little League when we played for Stroh's Sports. It was always a good time going to your house to play. Mr. Hittle was a fine man and father, and a heck of a ballplayer. Your old neighbor.

Hittle Family:
It was my privilege to get to know Lloyd through our annual Stockton Ports alumni events. I enjoyed spending time with him and he was a tremendous source of inspiration to everybody as he threw out the ceremonial first pitch each year. My sincere sympathy to your family and we will honor Lloyd with a moment of silence before a Ports game in 2012.
