Maynard Delano Handel was born in Lodi on June 20, 1933 and returned to Heaven on January 8, 2013, at the age of 79.

Maynard was a graduate of Lodi High School. He was a lifelong grape farmer in the Lodi area, an adult community leader for Alpine/Victor 4H, and a community leader in Farm Bureau and in Young Farmers. He managed the Grape Pavilion at the Lodi Grape Festival for several years. He was a lifelong member and usher for Zion Reformed Church. He had a great love of the outdoors and loved to hunt deer and to fish for abalone. Maynard proudly served as the Fire Chief of Mokelumne Rural Fire District, for many years.
Awaiting him in Heaven are his parents, Gideon and Hilda Handel and his sister Marlene Mostowski. Also waiting to greet him in Heaven are his first wife Wanda Eisenbeis and his second wife, Diane Hoskins.
Maynard leaves behind a large and loving family: his brothers, Lionell Handel, of Salinas and John Mostowski, of Escalon; his children; Eric and Pamm Handel and their children, Rebekah, Kimberly, Adam and his wife, Christie; Debera and Scott Sutherland and their daughter Kate; Dan and Stacy Hutchins; Doug and Polli Hutchins and their children, Stewart, Gracie, Stephen and Elliot; Daryl and Tania Hutchins and their children, Janae, Bryan, Elita and Jason; and Yvonne Allison and her children, Cory and Danielle.
Viewing will be Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday, January 18, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Donahue Funeral Home, 123 N. School St, in Lodi. Family and friends are welcome at graveside services on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Lodi Memorial Park at 5750 E. Pine, in Lodi.
Immediately following the graveside services, a Mokelumne Rural Fire District fire truck will act as Honor Guard to escort the vehicles of the family and friends of Maynard Handel to the Mokelumne Fire Station at 13157 E. Brandt Rd, in Lockeford to participate in a continued Celebration of Maynard's Life.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Maynard request donations, to the Mokelumne Firefighters Association, for purchase of rescue equipment in his honor.
