Amelia Ruth Droge passed away May 1, 2014 at the age of 26. Born in Stockton, California on May 24, 1987, she grew up and attended school in Lodi. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Stockton where she was baptized and confirmed. |
Amelia connected with her German heritage and studied the language in High School. Her German teacher, Frau Deberry, encouraged her to study in Hamburg where she spent her junior year. She traveled during that time and became enamored with the European culture. Her favorite city was Prague.
She continued her studies at UC San Diego where she completed a bachelor's degree in International Studies, hoping to turn her passion into a career. She developed deep and abiding friendships and remained there after her graduation. Amelia was employed by an international businessman, coordinating his schedule and travel plans. She went on to work for Life Proof as a customer service representative. She began pursuing a nursing degree, but was challenged with admissions and class availability.
Amelia was afflicted with clinical depression and difficulties associated with that. She returned home to get treatment and continue pursuing her nursing degree. While here, she got involved in St. Andrew's Good Shepherd Family, a ministry to developmentally disabled adults. Both members as well as volunteers experienced the love she had for people as a whole. She loved indiscriminately. Amelia could relate to anyone of any age, gender, ethnicity or station in life.
She is survived by her parents, John and Jennifer Droge, her brother Joshua, her grandmother Phyllis Nichols, and her companion Geoff Kremer from San Diego, who persevered through her struggles and a long distance relationship. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles David and Jackie, Denny and Virginia, Nick and Beth Droge, Kim and Ross Yukolis, cousins Burtt, Elyssa, and Emily Droge, Christina Nichols, Adam Yukolis, and her lifelong friends, Walter, Ruth, Andrew, Jamie and Emily Sowell, who were her chosen family from Piedmont, California.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church, 4910 Claremont Ave, Stockton, CA, 95207.
