Berta Mae Peterson, 92 of Lodi, passed away peacefully at her home on September 28, 2012, with her family and faithful companion Gidget at her side. Berta was born on September 18, 1920 in Richey Montana to Robertie M. and Leda Ray Cooper. After graduating from high school in Sidney, Montana in 1938, Berta moved to Sacramento, CA. in 1940 and in 1948 met and married her loving husband of 59 years Carl Harold Peterson. Berta and Pete raised three children, son Jim Peterson (Judy), daughter Carol von Berg (Steve), and daughter Nancy Dobler (Darrell). She resided at the family ranch from that time until her passing. Berta touched the lives and hearts of all she met---she will be dearly missed.|
Berta was preceded in death by her husband, Carl "Pete", parents and four siblings, Ray Cooper, Etta Delamore, Don Cooper, and Aileen Hess.
She is survived by her children, Jim, Carol, Nancy, seven grandsons, Brad, Phil and Marty Peterson, Brett and Eric von Berg, Robby and Gary Dobler, six great grandchildren, niece Linda Peterson Watt and her son James Watt. She also leaves behind numerous adoring nephews and nieces.
Berta enjoyed her life in Lodi. She worked on the family ranch and at B of A. However, she always found time for many clubs, social activities, and volunteer work. She especially liked dancing to the music of the 40's and playing cards with her Bridge friends. Berta was a long time member of the Woman's Club, Money Bags, Town and Country and her Bridge group.
As a 53 year survivor of breast cancer, Berta appreciated and enjoyed every day of her life (we said she was like a cat with nine lives). Her positive attitude, friendly smile, gentle manner, twinkling eyes, and hugs, will be remembered by all who knew her. Her love and devotion to family will remain in our hearts forever. We love you Grandma Berta!!
Berta and family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff at Lodi Memorial Hospital, Fairmont Rehab, Ben Schaffer Cancer Institute, and Hospice of San Joaquin for their kindness and professionalism during her illnesses. A special thanks needs to be given to Dr. Duncan, Dr. Magorien, and Dr. Kiraly for the many years of wonderful care they always provided. Thank you, Don, Bev, and Diane for your love, care and attention.
In lieu of flowers, at Berta's request, donations may be made to: Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation, Ben Schaffer Cancer Institute, Shriners' Children's Hospital, Woman's Club of Lodi, Loel Center or charity of donor's choice.
Internment will be private. Her final resting place will be Lodi Memorial Cemetery. There will be a celebration of Berta's life on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, 11:30am, at the Woman's Club of Lodi, 325 W. Pine Street, Lodi.
