Brian Tha Saechao, 30, and his son, Raphael Thon Saechao, 2, of Sacramento, passed away suddenly on Friday afternoon, October 12, 2012, from an unfortunate drowning incident in Sacramento. Brian was born on December 29, 1981, in San Jose, California, raised in Lodi, and began living his dream as a family man making his home in Sacramento with his wife and son, Raphael. He was first and foremost a loving husband and father, a dedicated Mien Community Leader, and a professional social worker committed to serving and advocating for children and their families' rights and livelihoods. Raphael was born on July 30, 2010, in Sacramento, California, and lived his entire vibrant life in Sacramento. He was the shining light of his parents' lives and gave them their purpose – to build a loving and strong family unit, to share their love and care with the community, and to cherish life's blessings. Raphael taught those around him about life in the way only a child so elegantly and intelligently could. Brian and Raphael were and are inseparable – in life and passing. Since Raphael entered Brian's life, they both grew into their best selves and spirits. Brian and Raphael are both survived by Fam Seng Chao (Brian's wife and mother of Raphael) and their unborn son, of Sacramento; Brian's father and mother, Mr. Fouta Yein Chao and Ms. Gain Kauy Saechao, of Lodi; Brian's siblings, May Saechao Matsui, Naita Saechao Chialvo, and David Tha Chao; Brian's paternal grandmother, Nai Sio Saechao, Lodi; Brian's maternal grandparents, Mr. Fou Kouy Saechao and Mrs. Koy Choy Saechin, San Jose; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and extended family here in the United States, Thailand and Laos. Viewing Services will be held between 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, at the Lodi Funeral home. A Memorial to celebrate Brian and Raphael's lives will be held between 12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. at the Lodi Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lodi Memorial Park & Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friends may call the Lodi Funeral Home for more details about the Viewing and Memorial: 725 South Fairmont Avenue, Lodi, CA. 209-369-3564 The interment location is at the Lodi Memorial Park & Cemetery – 5750 East Pine Street, Lodi, CA.
