Rev. Earl Rawlins, Jr. (of Thornton, CA) age 83 passed away Tuesday, December 18, after a lengthy illness. He was born December 4, 1929 in Houston, Texas to Earl Rawlins, Sr. and Jeannette Johnson. He was the last of four children (all deceased): Oliver Rawlins; Cottrell "Sonny" Rawlins; Opal Rawlins Shield (Jessie).He attended schools in Houston. He was baptized at an early age, and participated in church services. Earl joined the Army; the Army discharged him when they determined he was under age.

He married several times and had a total of 9 children. He married Deloris Hudson in San Francisco, CA on May 17, 1980; no children from this union. He loved the word of God. His favorite hobbies were fishing, boating, gardening, and the outdoors. Additionally, Earl loved cooking--especially cakes and barbeque. He was a faithful member at Emanuel Baptist Church, San Francisco, CA as an usher. In 1994, he and Deloris moved to Thornton, CA and he continued his work as an usher.
After retirement, he continued his work in the church and the community. He remained active with his love of fishing, boating, cooking, and gardening until his illness.
Earl was ordained as a minister in 1999, by the late Rev. Joe A. Goree, and worked faithfully at Community Missionary Baptist Church until his health failed. Likewise, he served faithfully with the Stockton Ministers' Alliance.
Rev. Rawlins is survived by his wife, Deloris; and 9 children: Anthony Rawlins (Edwina), San Leandro, CA; Beverly Dynes, Richmond, CA; Jackie Bailey, Oakland, CA; Eva Marie Heard, Stockton, CA; Lawrence Rawlins, Oakland, CA; Jeannette Rawlins (Oakland, CA; Edith Dixon, San Leandro, CA; Albert Rawlins, Sr. (Joyce), Oakland, CA; Elaine Thomas (Henry), Oakland, CA. Three sons preceded Earl in death: Wendell Rawlins (Sheila); Tracy Rawlins; and James Hudson. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces and nephews and other loving relatives, friends, and his Community Missionary Baptist Church family.
Viewing is Friday, December 28, 2012 @12:00 p.m. – 1:00 P.M. Celebration Service will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi, CA. Committal will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.
