Elizabeth Walters Obituary

Betty passed away peacefully in Lodi, California on April 16, 2010.
She was born June 19, 1915 to Jacob and Anna Zier in Fromberg, Montana, and was one of eleven children. From Montana, her family moved to Lincoln, NE, and then to Scottsbluff, NE.
Betty married Arthur (Art) Walters on May 1, 1933. Art and Betty eventually moved to California and had three children - Monty Walters, Jenean (Walters) Reinertson, and Tom Walters. Art and Betty were married 55 years before Art passed away in 1991. Two years later, Betty and Art's eldest son Monty passed away. Then in 1998 Art and Betty's other two children, Tom and Jenean, were called home as well. Betty was also preceded in death by her brothers: Jack, George, Dave, Don, Pete and John Zier; and sisters: Molly, Helen, Lydia and Esther.
Betty was a devoted wife and mother. The most important thing in her life was her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and introducing others to the salvation she knew so well. She was a prayer warrior who spent many hours each day praying for her family and friends. She supported numerous ministries monetarily each month and wrote letters of encouragement almost daily.
Betty is survived by her grandsons: Don (Peggy) Walters, Robb (Kim) Walters, and Stephen (Vaughn) Reinertson; granddaughters: Debi (Bryan), Hyzdu, Diane (John) Juarez, Heather (Dino) Genito and Sarah Reinertson; great- grandchildren: Chris (Jen) Walters, Jenny Walters, Kelsey Walters, Tim Hyzdu, Tommy Hyzdu, Kimberli Hyzdu, Anthony Juarez, Alicia Juarez, Kirsta, Emilee, Shey, Bre, and Cherish Walters, Chelsea and Jack Reinertson. Betty has one great-great-grandson, Maxwell James Hyzdu, and was eagerly awaiting the birth of her second great-great-grandson, Jake (Chris & Jen) Walters. Betty is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Norma Walters (Bob) Slayback and Lynette Walters (David) Channell; sisters-in-law, Venie (John) Zier and Birdeen (Don) Zier; her son-in-law Bob (Joyce) Reinertson, and by many nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friend, Margaret Christenson.
Betty wrote a final message to those she loved: "What a blessing and great privilege is mine to have such a fine family and, in Heaven, to rise and say 'Are all the children in?' There we will rejoice together throughout all eternity and sing, 'Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.' We are saved through faith and no merit of our own. It is a free gift bestowed upon us. Ephesians 2:8-9 says 'For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any should boast.' I trust to meet you in the land that is fairer than day. I will welcome each of you home as I wait inside the gate."
Private interment will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, Fair Oaks, CA. A Memorial Service and reception will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Vinewood Community Church, 1900 W. Vine St., Lodi, CA.
Memorials can be made in her name to Grace Ministries International, P.O. Box 9405, Grand Rapids, MI 49509 or to Vinewood Preschool, 1900 W. Vine St., Lodi, CA 94242.

Family of Betty: It was an absolute pleasure to have known such a wonderful person and to have her as our friend. Thank you for asking me to clean for her, I think I spent more time talking to her than anything. You just couldn't resist. Our best to all of you. Ric & Nancy Schmidli

Norma,
What a beautiful message from your mother-in-law to those who are left behind! We sorrow, but not as others. May you find comfort and joy knowing she is waiting for you "inside" the gate. Oh what a day that will be when we all see Jesus and sing His praises around the throne of grace.
Much love,
