Elvira Esparza Mendez, 84, of Lodi passed away early Wednesday, January 30, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. She was born December 6, 1928 in Guadalajara, Mexico and moved to Lodi in 1968.

Mrs. Mendez was a homemaker and an active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church who had unbelievable faith and prayed the Rosary daily. Also a member of the Mexican- American Catholic Federation of Lodi and a member of the Comite Patriotico de Beneficencia of Roseville.
She taught Spanish CCD for many years at St. Anne's Church and was a caregiver to many children throughout her life, which she loved as if they were her own.
Mrs. Mendez enjoyed visiting with friends and family, working in her garden of roses and attending church and community functions.
A special, thank you, to her God Daughter, Elodia Garza and family for their love and support, especially, through Elvira's illnesses.
She is preceded in death by her siblings, Flora, Miguel, Guadalupe, Daniel, Petra, Jesus, Maria, Mercedes, Jose and Sara.
Survived by her husband of forty-five years, Juan R. Mendez.
Daughter, Leticia (Clifton) West and granddaughter, Brianna Mendez.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said Thursday at 6:00pm in the chapel of the Donahue Funeral Home, 123 N. School St., Lodi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00am in St. Anne's Catholic Church followed by committal at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
