Jesus welcomed Erna Zielske to her heavenly home on March 19, 2014 at the age of 103. She was surrounded by her loving family and loving caregivers of O'Connor Woods. Erna was born in 1910 in Harvey, North Dakota, and was the oldest of 9 children. The family moved to Goodrich where they lived and farmed until 1918 when they traveled by train and settled in Lodi. The family farmed different locations in and around Lodi, she attended many elementary schools in the area. Her parents were charter members of Emanuel Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was confirmed. She met and married Alfred Zielske in 1934, and together they raised 4 children. The family spent many enjoyable summers at Tamarack. She and Alfred faithfully attended St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she was a long time member of the Mission Auxiliary, Evening Circle and Sewing Circle. She was employed at East Side Winery for 23 years and retired in 1974. After her retirement she enjoyed gardening, bowling, and traveling, both in the United States and abroad. Her favorite destination was Alaska. She participated in many activities and volunteered at the Loel Center until age 92. In 2003 she moved to O'Connor Woods where she continued to be active. |
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Christina Schimke, her husband Alfred, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Erna is survived by her children, Barbara (Jim), Alfred (Garnet), Ron (Marian) and Patty (Tom), and 5 grandchildren, Carol, Scott, Pam, Emily, and Mike. She also leaves behind 6 great grandchildren, Amanda, Shelby, Leslie, Amelia, Lily, Gabriel, and her great great granddaughter, Adalay. Erna will also be missed by her brothers, Art and Rueben, her sister Clara, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane in Lodi. A Celebration of Erna's Life will immediately follow at 11:00a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1540 W. Lodi Ave, Lodi, CA 95242.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Erna's name to Hospice of San Joaquin, Emanuel Lutheran Church, or the
"Well done my good and faithful servant".
