Florence was born and raised in Philadelphia as one of nine children to Albert & Mary Whitman. She married Vincent Shalvey in 1940 (now deceased) and continued to live in the old neighborhood until her move to Linden in 1997. Floss retired from Philadelphia's legendary Whitman Book Store in 1983 and moved to Linden in 1997. Noted for her lace cookies, she also loved to read and volunteer at St. Mary's TLC School, Aspire Public Schools, and Friends of the Linden Library. Her greatest joy was spending time with her dear friends, Grace and Bill Machado. Florence is survived by her son Donald, daughter-in-law Sue Machado Shalvey, children Megan and Brian, her sister Anne Davies in Broken Arrow, OK, and her numerous nieces and nephews.
