Helen Caroline Alegre, age 76, of Lodi, passed away on March 25, 2013. She was born in Antelope, North Dakota on May 15, 1936, to Jacob and Helen (Neubauer) Mayer.
Helen, along with her husband of over 57 years, Frank, started Frank C. Alegre Trucking in 1963 with 1 truck. Helen worked as a dispatcher from the front room of their home, as well as the bookkeeper for the company. As the company grew, the various truck terminal locations did as well, landing at the current location on Highway 12. Helen remained mostly behind the scenes, but was a very integral part of the company's success. When she and her husband sold the company in 2000, she was the President of a company that owned and operated well over 150 trucks.
Helen greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. When her kids were young, she helped coach their baseball teams and as "Team Mom" she could be found cheering them on while keeping score from the stands. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball and water skiing and she and her husband were members of the Lodi Boat and Ski Club. Helen loved her cats, especially Tyson and Pumpkin, and also enjoyed collecting owls, roosters, and lighthouses.
Helen is survived by her husband, Frank C. Alegre; sons: Frank Alegre, Jr., Tony (Kellie) Alegre, and Gary Alegre; grandchildren: Cpt. Andress Alegre, Audrey Alegre, Adrienne (Michael) Sanchez, Adeline Alegre, Sgt. Alexander Alegre, Shandi (Jeff) Alegre-Hunt; great grandchildren: Asen Hunt, Nova Hunt, M.J. Sanchez, and Tiger Sanchez; sisters: Irene Anderson, Delores Fiori and Esther Meyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Helen Mayer, and siblings, Herbert Mayer, Levi Mayer, and Clara Neil.
