She is survived by four of her children: Joan (Dennis) Wood of San Diego, CA, Kevin (Deb) Treinen of Gold Beach, OR, Belinda (Mike) Hurst of Galt, CA, and Marie (William) Geiger of Chevy Chase, MD. Her brother, Jim, will also miss her dearly. Helen attended Sacred Heart, Star of the Sea High School and Lone Mountain College for Women in San Francisco. She remained life-long friends with many of her classmates. In 1948, Helen was the first in her family to graduate from college, receiving her degree in Chemistry and then taking a position with Stanford University as a re-search assistant.
She married Hugh in 1949, moved to Mill Valley and then Piedmont while becoming a homemaker. While raising five children, she also was a devoted wife and was endeared by all members of her extended family. She took a great pride in running a household and graciously entertaining family and friends. She was a member of the scripture study group and Altar Society at Corpus Christi in Piedmont. Helen was an avid reader, and gardener. The local paper wasn't substantial enough for her interests, so she subscribed to The Wall Street Journal. After her husband's death, she moved to Lodi, CA from Piedmont, CA. Her life in Lodi was highlighted with her involvement in the lives of her grandchildren. She participated in her faith community in Lodi through her membership in study groups and the Daughters of Isabella. Her final days were comfortably spent at Vienna Nursing and Rehab.
A vigil and reflection service will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, at Lodi Funeral Home in Lodi, CA. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne's on Monday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m.
