Ira James Wilkerson, 84, of Lodi, passed away on May 27, 2014. He was born on April 28, 1930, in Springfield, Missouri. He moved to the Lodi area at the age of 11. On September 2, 1970, he married Opal (Hart) Asher. He worked for Colberg Bolt Works for 15 years. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years, and served in the Korean War, and Vietnam War. He served on the USS Wasp, and was part of the crew that picked up the astronauts of the Gemini IV, in 1965. He enjoyed horseshoes, watching T.V., especially Star Trek and Everybody Loves Raymond, traveling with his late wife Opal to Reno and Lake Tahoe. He also enjoyed his morning breakfast at McDonalds to meet with his veteran friends. He is survived by his daughters, Carol Watkins and Phyllis Cooper; and son, Harold Asher 12 grandchildren; 21 great grand children; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Bill Wilkerson; sister, Anna Lefto; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; daughters, Donna Austin, Sandra Austin, and Rebecca Asher; son, Jimmy Austin; parents, Samuel and Alta Wilkerson; and brother, Wayne Wilkerson.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, May 29 from 11 am - 5 pm at Lodi Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
