James was born in South Sacramento January 11, 1985 and passed away August 13, 2012 in Houston, TX. James grew up in Galt on his grandparents' tree farm, Forest Creek Christmas Trees, and worked there throughout his teens with his extended family. He also worked at Lodi Memorial Hospital in patient transport to help pay for his education at Lodi Academy. After graduation he worked as a resident service coordinator for an assisted living residence in the Bay Area. While living in the Bay Area James became active in renaissance faires, where he loved playing a celtic warrior. He became an EMT, aiming to be a paramedic. He moved to Texas in 2009, working as an EMT until illness forced him to quit. He valiantly battled cancer to the end. James is survived by his mother, Debbie Bowen-Austin, of Galt; his father, and step-mother, Jim and Darenda Austin of Woodbridge; brother, Scott and wife Trish Austin of Austin, TX; sisters, Dena Austin of Conroe, TX, Ashley Austin of Galt; and brother, Blake Montgomery, of Everett, WA; Jeff and Jinna Hughes (his Texas parents), of Conroe, Texas; grandparents, Bob and Joyce Bowen of Galt, and Dona and Frosty Austin of Stockton; as well as his "great aunt", Jean Roberts and uncle, Bill Rogers; Auntie Lisa and husband Jim Jennings, all of Lodi; cousins, Chris Campen and wife Saori, of Kansas City, MO, and Kelly Hendergart of Lodi; niece Taylor and nephew Antonio Austin, who called James 'Tio Seamus', and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. James ashes will be scattered in Scotland, a country that he visited and loved. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service for James on Saturday, September 1st, at 4 p.m., at the Galt Seventh Day Adventist Church, 619 Myrtle Avenue, Galt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the James Bowen Austin Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Lodi Academy, 1230 S. Central Avenue, Lodi, CA 95240.
