Juanita H. Parsons Obituary
Galt, CA – Our selfless, patient, and elegant Juanita, 72, passed away November 18, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family after a short, intense fight with cancer. Juanita was born August 18, 1941 in Proctor, WV to Emery Lee Huggins and Clarice Mabel Blake Huggins. Juanita grew up in Proctor, WV and graduated from Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, WV. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart John Parsons on January 17, 1959. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple in June, 1969 after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Juanita lived in WV until 1968 when she moved to Dayton, OH and then on to Stockton, CA in 1972. For the last 12 years she has resided in Galt, CA.
Juanita was the mother of four children; two sons and two daughters. She spent her life serving her family, her church, and her community while employed full-time as the office manager in John's insurance office. Juanita served a total of 12 years as Stake Primary President, a time in her life she treasured. Juanita loved working with the children. She also served as Ward Relief Society President on three separate occasions. In 1992, Juanita completed her goal of graduating from Institute after years of work. Juanita and John were able to travel after the kids were grown and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Alaska, all 48 states of the continental US, the Middle East, and several trips to Europe. Juanita and John served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2007 – 2009 in the Ohio, Columbus Mission, fulfilling Juanita's long-held dream.
Juanita was a guiding light to many, and able to bring out the best in others. She loved everyone without condition.
She is survived by her husband, John, her children John II (Lori) of Winter Springs, FL, James (Mary) of Walnut Creek, CA, Jana Parsons, Logan UT, and Jill Hutchison, Pleasant Grove, UT. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Rogers (Bob), New Martinsville, WV and a brother Charles Huggins (Betty), Proctor, WV. Even though Juanita didn't live geographically close to her grandchildren, she and John were always involved and supportive of them in their school and church activities. They didn't miss any important occasion, arranging travel and time as needed.
The funeral service will be held Friday, November 22 at 10:00 am at the chapel in Galt, CA, 972 Vintage Oak Ave. Viewings will be held at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, CA on Thursday, November 21 from 2:00 – 8:00 pm and at the Galt chapel before the service at 9:00 am.
