1944 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Junella Magdalena Kort Obituary
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Junella Magdalena (Giger) Kort passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2012. "June" was born in Guide Rock, Nebraska on March 22, 1926. She graduated high school in Blue Hill, Nebraska in 1944 and worked for the Navy Depot in Hastings, Nebraska for several years thereafter. She married Douglas Kort on November 22, 1948. They had to postpone their wedding for two days due to the blizzard of 1948. They moved to Lodi in 1959 with their three children, where she was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church for 53 years. June took much pride and joy in raising her children, cooking wonderful and healthy meals, gardening (vegetables and flowers), and hosting many family gatherings at their home. She was a talented artist (oils and watercolors), attended Jazzercise classes on a regular basis, and loved to travel. She and her husband traveled extensively, and one of the highlights was taking their three children and their spouses on a ten-day Panama cruise, where they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Magdalena (Goos) Giger; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Octavia Kort; sister, Lillian Sterling; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kort; nephew, Richard Heinrich; sister-in-law, LaVonna Kort; brothers-in-law, William Cumberland and Elmer Hohlen. She is survived by her husband Doug of 63 years; son, Dallas (and Joni) Kort of Lodi; daughter, Shirley (and Geno) Meath of Lodi; daughter, Jill (and Dave) Whetter of De Soto, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Jason (and Lisa) Kort and Jeffrey Kort of Lodi; step-granddaughter, Carrie Young of Stockton; Rachel (and Bryce) Aebi of Fresno; Jenna Meath of Mountain House; D.J. (and Lori) Whetter of Shawnee, Kansas; Christine Whetter of Austin, Texas; and Dana Whetter of Lawrence, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Clayton, Hannah, and Addison; sister, Laura Mae (and Joe) Kalig; brother, Ervin Giger; brother-in-law, Russell Sterling; brother-in-law Gene Kort (and Betty); sisters-in-law Colleen Hohlen, Arelyn Cumberland, LaMerle Peterson (and Walter), and Sheryl Bettencourt (and Darryl); and many nieces and nephews.
