Lawrence Lester Schmierer Obituary
Lawrence Lester Schmierer, 91, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013.  He was born  in Ellendale, North Dakota to Adam and Marie (Schmidt) Schmierer.
Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Victor, California. He attended Houston School and graduated from Lodi High where he received many track medals. He enlisted in the Marine Corp in December 1942 and was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant in 1946. After returning home, he managed the family farm until his marriage to Thelma Amburn. Larry then started his own business as a lawn sprinkler contractor, his last job was at the Holt Ranch (O'Connor Woods). He enjoyed the mountains: tobogganing at Big Trees, helping his brother-in-law build a cabin in Arnold, and for many years donated his time and materials to the Terra Del Oro Girl Scouts Council, to upgrade the infrastructure at Camp Menzies.
Upon his retirement he moved to Mountain Ranch where he loved cutting his own firewood, maintaining his garden, installing watering systems and making homemade pickles.  He also enjoyed collecting old items, writing letters and short stories, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles.  He so enjoyed his family get togethers where he supplied the best homemade ice cream. Christmas was a time of fun for all with his gag gifts.  When he was ready to return to the valley he chose to live at O'Connor Woods where he met many good friends and was known as the "puzzleman."
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Marie Schmierer; his brothers Arthur, Clarence, Ernest, Melvin; his sisters Francis and Gladys Peterson.  Lawrence will be dearly missed by his sister Doris Amburn and brother Gordon (Esther) Schmierer Sr.; children Carolyn (Rick) Ragsdale, and Dave Schmierer; grandchildren Jennifer Ragsdale, Eric  (Anna) Ragsdale, Danielle (Mike) Gagliolo, Brandi (Brad) Willard, Matt (Melissa) Schmierer; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park at 11:00 am.
