Peacefully in sleep, Lydia Martha Emler, 91, passed away at her home on April 12, 2014. She was surrounded by her caregivers, Mary Costilla and Maggie Freeman. Each had devoted many years in her service. |
Lydia was born July 21, 1922 in Braddock, North Dakota. She was the first born to Phillip and Emma (Preszler) Merkel.
She married Harold Clinton Emler on Nov. 25,, 1948. They lived most of their married life in San Jose and Morgan Hill, settling in Lodi in 1990. Lydia had worked many years for the County of Santa Clara.
At their cabin in Sonora and in their homes, they often entertained family and friends. Lydia and Harold enjoyed traveling. They had a happy life together.
She is survived by her sister, Irene Kleppe of Napoleon, ND and her brother-in-law, Richard Emler of Fresno, CA and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lydia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold in 2009, her parents, her brothers, Albert and Alvin and her brother-in-law Wilbur Emler and her sister-in-law Margaret DeSelle.
Viewing will take place at 10am Saturday, April 26th, with services to follow at 11:30am at Donahue Funeral Home. Interment will be in Steele, ND next to her late husband, Harold.
