Martha May Miller passed away at Bethany Home in Ripon, California, on May 30, 2013.|
May was born on March 30, 1914, in Los Angeles to Edward Eugene and Laura Wayman. She was raised in Delhi, California, attending school in Livingston, California, graduating from Livingston High School in 1932. After high school, May attended U.C. Davis and Modesto Junior College.
May married Ralph Miller on September 25, 1935. After traveling with Ralph with road construction crews around California, May and Ralph settled in Lodi, California.
In 1960, May received her teaching credential from Sacramento State and was an elementary school teacher for Lodi Unified School District until her retirement.
May and Ralph loved to travel and had many great trips around the United States, and Mexico. After Ralph's passing in 1979, May continued to travel and enjoyed several trips to Europe.
One of May's greatest joys was her church, the First United Methodist Church in Lodi. She actively participated in groups and prayer until her health and subsequent move to Modesto in 2008 prevented her from doing so.
May was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph B. Miller, her sister, Rose Saunders in 2007, and her son-in law, Jack Nayer, in 2011.
May is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Nayer, of Escalon, California. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Macy Caldwell of Modesto, California, and her nephew, Alan Saunders of Carson City, Nevada, and niece, Kathy Patton, of Fresno, California.
The family wishes to acknowledge and gratefully thank the staff of Bethany Home Society of Ripon, California, for their extraordinary care while May was a resident there.
Services were held privately and burial was at Winton Cemetery in Winton, California.
