Quirina Van Warmerdam Obituary
Quirina Van Warmerdam, long time resident of Galt, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the age of 86 following a brief illness.
Quirina was born in the small village of Voorhout in Holland, where she grew up on the family tulip farm.  During her youth, she enjoyed ice skating on the canals and spending time with her friends. Following her elementary education, she continued on with domestic trade school where she earned her diploma in sewing. In 1953, she began dating her future husband, Ben, who had immigrated to America and was establishing himself as a dairyman in the Elk Grove area. They corresponded by letters, and in February 1955 they married. Their first home was in Elk Grove, and following multiple moves, they settled to their current dairy location in Galt.
Quirina was a loving, hardworking mother to seven children, and took pride in raising her family with true Dutch culture and traditions. She loved being surrounded by flowers, and every spring would have her flower beds full of tulips. She was a wonderful wife to her late husband, Ben, who had established himself as a respectful dairyman and leader in the community. During her later years, Quirina enjoyed traveling with Ben, spending time with her family and friends, and was an avid fan of the game show "Wheel of Fortune."
Quirina was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Van Warmerdam. She is survived by her devoted children, Mary (Mark), Leo (Darla), Arleen (Paul), Louise (Kevin), Caroline (Jim), Peter (Tricia) and Benny; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Services will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Grove. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, May 27th at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, May 28th at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Please consider memorial contributions to the California Future Farmers of America (FFA) Foundation.  Make checks payable to California FFA Foundation, P.O. Box 834, Elk Grove, CA 95759.  (Memo:  VanWarmerdam Family Memorial Scholarship Fund).
