Ralph Hickingbottom Obituary
Ralph Hickingbottom passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018, after a long battle with multiple illnesses.
He was born Ralph Delano Hickingbottom on May 9, 1945 in Kerman, CA to William & Beatrice (Messenger) Hickingbottom. Ralph graduated from Lodi High School in 1964 and went on to obtain a certificate in Auto Body Repair from San Joaquin Delta College. On March 19, 1965 he married Louise Ballew. In the early years of their marriage he worked for Standard Oil Co. and then went on to work in the Auto Body Shop at the Hansel & Ortman Cadillac dealership in Stockton. His career in auto body repair spanned thirty years with him working at James Paulk Auto Body and for a number of years in his own shop, Hickingbottom Frame & Body Shop. Ralph's career was cut short when at the age of fifty-three he suffered a brain aneurysm that left him unable to work.
In the years before his health limited his activities, Ralph enjoyed the outdoors. He loved camping and always looked forward to the annual family trip to Silver Lake. He loved fishing, going to the gun range, riding dirt bikes, four-wheelin', and listening to country music. He was quick-witted and just loved to tease people, but always in a way that let you know that he was just having a little fun with you.
Most importantly, Ralph was a family man. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family always came first with Ralph. He had a huge heart with an immense capacity to love. Though he was of modest means he was an extremely generous man. He was quick to take someone in that needed a roof over their head or a hot home-cooked meal. Whatever he had, he could always find a way to share with others.
Ralph was married to the love of his life, Louise (Ballew) Hickingbottom, for forty-nine years until she passed away in October of 2014. He is survived by his son Bryan Hickingbottom (Linda), his daughter Aleacia Pinkey (Dan), his five grandchildren: Derek Fauth, Ariana Fauth, Ben Fauth (Becca), Emily Hickingbottom, and Matt Hickingbottom; his three great-grandchildren: Skylar Fauth, Ryan Scott, and Owen Fauth. He is also survived by three brothers: his identical twin Roland Hickingbottom (Kay), Harold Hickingbottom and Paul Hickingbottom; two sisters: Marie Bowlin and Kellie Messenger. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Beatrice (Messenger) Hickingbottom as well as four brothers: Norman, John, Aubrey, and Alton Hickingbottom.
A memorial service and celebration of life reception will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 2:30pm at Lodi Avenue Baptist Church, 2301 W. Lodi Avenue in Lodi, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Hospice of San Joaquin.
