Ron Slate, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather was carried by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to his heavenly home on October 9, 2012 at the age of 76. He was born October 18, 1935 to Claude and Bertha Slate in Garden Grove. |
He met Mary Moore in July of 1958 and they married only four short months later. He graduated from USC in 1962 as a CPA and practiced accounting for 25 years before becoming a franchisee of 3 Taco Bell restaurants. He had many other business ventures throughout his life.
He was a founding member of Lodi Crime Stoppers. He was a member of the Lodi Lions Club where he served as president in 1981-82 and received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship award. He was also a member of the Woodbridge Golf and Country Club and was its president in 1999. He thoroughly enjoyed the time he served as a Police Partner. Ron was the CFO of the Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation and was an eager supporter and an enthusiastic advocate for the Hospital. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church for 37 years and served on multiple boards for the church and school.
Ron enjoyed fishing, golfing, having coffee every afternoon with friends, playing gin with his buddies, and volunteering. He was the happiest when surrounded by his large loving family and enjoyed many vacations and activities with them. He loved family trips to Alaska, Panama, Hawaii, Sedona and was eagerly looking forward to the next trip the family could all take together.
He will forever be in the hearts of his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Slate of Lodi, his sons Ron Slate Jr. of Acampo and Ryan (Susan) Slate of Trabuco Canyon and his daughter Robin Boriack of Lodi. He will also be missed by his grandchildren: Tina Brodston (Emil Brodston), Emily Boriack (Andrew Reisinger), Steven Boriack, Elizabeth Boriack (Brian Milbauer), Melanie Slate and Andrew Slate, and two great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother Phil (Cookie) Slate of Texas and special family members Gary (Liza) Kanemura, brother-in-law Rueben Moore and many nieces and nephews.
He was welcomed into heaven by his precious daughter Renee Slate, his son-in-law Marc Boriack, his parents and many many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 15, 2012 as St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lodi, with a private committal preceding the services at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will take place from 2-6 pm on Sunday, October 14, at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way in Lodi.
