Shigeo "Shig" Sakoda, 89, of Lodi, CA., passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was born March 15, 1923 in Lodi to Kaichi and Shinayo Sakoda of Japan. He attended Lodi schools and was a farmer until all of the Japanese were interned in camps during World War II.|
Upon returning to Lodi after the war he continued to farm until he went to work for Lodi Tire where he would later retire. Shig married Asako Onishi on March 5, 1955, and they had one son, Edward.
Shig loved to go fishing, and was a long-time member of Lucky Anglers Fishing Club. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, his parents, and two brothers.
Shig is survived by his son, Edward Sakoda of Lodi; sister Helen Kishida of Lodi, brother Tom Sakoda of Lodi; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lodi Buddhist Church, 23 N. Stockton St, Lodi, with Rev. Katsuya Kusunoki officiating.
Inurnment will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park.
The Family Memorial Register Book may be signed at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Road, Lodi, on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
