Vernona Mae Highfill went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 after a very sudden illness. She was born in Brownfield, MO in 1948 and moved to California as a young child. In 1972 she married the love of her life, Douglas Highfill Sr. Together they enjoyed trips to the ocean, drives in the foothills, traveling to Oregon & Idaho to visit extended family and friends, or just relaxing in their home. |
Vernona, known as "Nonie" by family and friends, was very creative in writing, photography, and crafts; knitting, crocheting, sewing, card making, Origami, etc. She taught tatting classes, enjoyed the fellowship of working with the Yarners in her home, and the Quilters. She also loved sharing her knowledge of crafts with her grandchildren.
She loved The Lord and sharing Him with others through leading Bible Studies and using her knowledge of crafts to make many gifts that were sent overseas to our Military and those in need.
She served The Lord with several local congregations, the most recent being Clements Community Church.
Vernona is preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Vivian, and brother Joe. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Highfill Sr., son John Highfill & wife Sandra, daughter Courtney Iott, son Douglas Highfill Jr. & wife Annette, son David Highfill & wife Denise. She was blessed with sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by her is brother Wayne & wife Jessie, sister Loraine & husband Doug, sister Kathy & husband Wayne, and sister Connie.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23rd, 10:00 a.m. at Faith Community Church 18621 N. 99 Frontage Rd. Acampo, Ca. 95220
