William Rogers "Bill" Crete Jr. Obituary
William "Bill" Rogers Crete Jr., 64, passed away in Lodi, CA on Monday, January 20, 2014 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 19, 1949 in Marysville, CA he moved to Lodi with his parents who owned Crete's Lodi Drug Company. He attended Lodi Schools and graduated from Lodi High in 1967 and also worked for his parents at the pharmacy. He then went on to graduate from San Joaquin Delta College and San Jose State University pursuing a business degree. Bill most recently lived in Sacramento working at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles in Carmichael until his retirement in 2012. Bill loved the outdoors which included scouting as a youngster, camping, fishing for sure, snow skiing, food festivals, oyster and crab feeds, and barbecuing for friends and family. His barbecue was so good that his dad nicknamed him "Captain Cookout". Bill was also active in DeMolay, the Native sons of the Golden West and was an avid 49er Fan, cheering for his team up to his last days. Bill also enjoyed music! He loved "the blues" as well as classic rock.
Bill was preceded in death by his father William R. Crete, Sr., his mother Vera Cox Crete and his four legged companion "Jorma". Bill is survived by his sister Kathy Crete of Lodi, aunts Verna Crete and Karen Crete of Sacramento, aunt Irene Watson of Fairway, KS, uncle Frank (Shirley) Cox of San Diego, and numerous cousins and special friends. Bill had such a great sense of humor and fought cancer with the same strength and stubbornness that we all loved and admired about him.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Lodi Memorial Cemetery 5750 E. Pine St. in Lodi. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Contributions in Bill's memory may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin or to any charity dear to the giver's heart.
