On August 1, 2014, Alfred Joseph Patane passed away at the age of 98. Alfred was the son of Sabastiano and Agata (DiMauro) Patane. He was born in New York, New York on January 9, 1916. After a short return to their homeland of Mascali, Sicily, the family settled in San Jose, CA in 1921. Alfred spent his youth and young adulthood farming in San Benito County and met his future bride Clara (Bettencourt) Patane. They were wed on November 1, 1942 in Reno, Nevada and resided in San Martin, California where they had two daughters: Olivia (Patane) Heier and Susan (Patane) Dron. The family moved to Lodi in 1948 where Al, Clara, and their daughters worked endlessly to create a successful cattle ranch. Al was also an avid fisherman and hunter and spent many years taking annual trips to Alaska with family and friends. Al's hard work ethic and importance of family was a driving force behind his success. He will always be remembered for his wonderful stories of his youth, his love for family gatherings and his infectious laugh. Al was also involved in the community where in his younger years was a leader for 4H with his daughters, member of the Cattlemen Association, Farm Bureau and many other organizations. Al and Clara have also been generous contributors to Lodi Memorial Hospital. Al is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lena (Chiri), Mary (Puliafico) and Joseph Patane. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Clara Patane of Lodi, daughters Olivia Heier of Lodi and Susan (Jerry) Dron of Stockton; grandchildren: Rod (Leslie) Heier of Lodi, Elizabeth (Gary) Jackson of Petaluma, Katrina (Jay) Walkinshaw of Toronto, Canada, and Jeff (Tracey) Dron of Carmichael; brother Carmen (Mary) Patane of Gilroy and sister-in-law Phyllis Patane of Yuba City.

Al was loved and admired by his 7 great grandchildren: Allison, Zachary, Hanna, Jacob, Emma, Tyler and Lily. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at St. Annes Catholic Church, 215 Walnut St. in Lodi. Visitation will take place from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home 831 Industrial Way, Lodi
