Glenn D. Edens was born on a small farm in Lodi, California, September 14, 1923 and passed away of a heart attack, January 28, 2013 at age 89. He had a full and productive life. His deceased parents were M. Ralph Vierra and Helen Minnie Adelia Pruden. He was later adopted by his stepfather, Franklyn Edens, while living in Santa Monica. He is survived by his wife, Faye, and a brother, Dale Edens. While a youth in Santa Monica he had a paper route that included many Hollywood personalities; relationships and memories he cherished throughout his life. Glenn graduated from Santa Monica High in 1941. He enlisted in WWII and served as a B-24 Ball Gunner with the 5th Army Air Force, 43rd Bomber Squadron in Pacific campaigns. He had many stories to tell of his service years, but he never considered himself a hero in comparison with those serving in the infantry.
Words that describe Glenn are loyal, honest, steadfast, caring, helpful, thoughtful, generous, hard-working and disciplined. He worked hard all his life and was a great story teller of his many life experiences. He was a devoted trout fisherman and an avid reader. After the war, he worked for a phone company and then ran an I-HOP restaurant for several years. He moved back to Lodi in 1977 and married Faye Phillips and they raised two families together. Glenn never really retired, but kept busy cutting and splitting wood for himself and family, as well as operating his landscape maintenance service until the time of his death.
He is survived by daughters; Linda Wallman (Louis), Glenda Paldino (Kevin), Diane DeCoy (Dean), Kathy Edens, Wendy Davis (William) and a son Gary Runkle-Edens (Betsy). Another son, John, predeceased his father, but leaving 2 grandsons, Miles and Taylor. Glenn's four step children are: Pamela Long (Lee Miller), Teri Iverson (Tom), Tracy Phillips (Melody), and Tim Phillips (Judy). Grandchildren are: Shelley Northington, Buffy Carter, Michael Wallman, Madelyn and Richard Runkles-Eden, Katie Holland, Daniel Holland, Lindsey Paldino, Matthew Davis, Jordan DeCoy, Ireland DeCoy, William Phillips (Snow), Maureen Long, Shannon Ali (Gamul), Kristy McCarver, Carson and Destiny Phillips, Michael Phillips, Carl Phillips, Julie Sandoval (Javier), Brittany Phillips (Shawn) and David Phillips (Tara).
