Joe C. Silva was born on February 22, 1927 in the town of Ribeiro do Nabo on Sao George in the Azores Islands, Portugal. In 1951, he married Helena Maria Olivera from the neighboring town of Urzelina. In 1959, Joe came to the United States, and Helena and their three sons, Joseph, Fernando and Louis, joined him in 1960. Their fourth son Edward was born in the United States. Joe owned several diaries in California, including a partnership with Manuel Fernandez of Salinas, and Joe C. Silva and Sons Diary, located at various times in Oakdale, Elk Grove, and Lodi. Joe was active in the Portuguese Sociedade do Espirito Santo, serving as the Elk Grove Vice-President in 1981, and President in 1982, and organizing the 5-year anniversary for the SES hall on Grant Line Road. Mr. Silva is survived by his wife Helena; sisters Maria Sequeira and Laudelinda Alves of San Jose, Estella Medeiros of Acampo, and Laura Amaral of Portugal; brothers Julio Silva of Yuba City and Delfin Da Silva of Portugal;his sons Joseph, Fernando, Louis, and Edward Silva; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was much beloved by all and will be greatly missed.

Friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, April 2, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday, at 7pm at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at 10a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home with committal to follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
