Bertha Farley Steele

CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mrs. Bertha Mae Farley Steele, 87, of Chapmanville, was born Jan. 2, 1927, a daughter of the late Julius and Gracie Farley. She departed this life Mon., April 7, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Steele was a homemaker, a loving and dedicated mother and a member of the Morning Star Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel Steele, on March 8, 1995; sisters, Nancy "Sylvia" Vance and Ruth Adams, and brothers, Johnny Farley and Julius "Buddy" Farley Jr.

Survivors include her five sons, Malcolm (the late Jo) Steele of Columbus, Ohio, Jerry (Linda) Steele of Jacksonville, Fla., Richard (the late Kathy) Steele of St. Cloud, Fla., Stephen (Sue) Steele of Chapmanville and Walter (Debbie) Steele of Huntington; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sun., April 13, at Morning Star Freewill Baptist Church at Chapmanville with Rev. Herb Triplett officiating. Burial will follow in Steele Cemetery at Chapmanville.

Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
