MADISON, W.Va. — Mr. Howard Ray Hackney, 69, of Madison, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Boone Memorial Hospital at Madison.
Born March 19, 1944, at Ethel, he was a son of the late Hubert and Irene Deskins Hackney.
Mr. Hackney spent four years in the U.S. Army and most of his adult life in Akron, Ohio, where he retired from General Motors with 30 years of service. He returned to West Virginia after retiring where he enjoyed bowling, golfing, four-wheeling, and NASCAR.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Younce Hackney, and grandson, Brian Simpson.
Survivors include his children, Loretta Hackney Bradley and Duane Hackney, both of Akron, and Jeffrey Hackney of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Mac (Fay) Hackney of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Pete (Judy) Hackney of Lavalette, and Duke Hackney and Timmy Hackney, both of Stollings; five loving sisters, Shirley Hackney Rutherford and Tammy Hackney Duty, with whom he resided, both of Madison, Linda Hackney (Roger) Workman of Foster, Diana Hackney (Don) Cavell of Myrtle Beach, and Lisa Hackney (Mark) Goodall of Charleston; special caregivers, Linda Dolin and Joyce Hill; several nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 13, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Wayne Meadows Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
