Sgt. James E. Heflin

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Retired West Virginia State Police Sergeant and U.S. Marine Corps veteran James E. Heflin, 83, of Williamson, passed away suddenly Fri., July 18, 2014, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Known as "Champ" to fellow state troopers and other law enforcement officers, he was the beloved husband of Rosa Heflin and the loving father of Denise Heflin-Peyton, Jamie Heflin Weaver, J. B. Heflin and Angela Heflin McKnight and Papa of Daniel, Jonathan, Brittany, Alexis and Grace.

Heflin was a former commander of the Williamson detachment and concluded his career as Troop 5 District sergeant, Logan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday morning, July24, at Weaver Mortuary. Champ will be buried beside his father in Long Point Cemetery at Walkersville, Lewis County.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary under the watch of the West Virginia State Police Honor Guard.

West Virginia State Troopers will serve as his pallbearers. Military honors will be presented at the graveside.
