VERMILION, Ohio — James L. Whitt, 76, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, at Specialty Hospital of Lorain, Ohio, after a short illness.
Born December 16, 1936, in Chapmanville, he was a son of the late Cecil and Sarah Beckett Whitt. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Verna Conley and Blanche Conley, and brothers, Carl and Jack Whitt.
James had been a Vermilion resident for the past 46 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a repairman for Ford Motor Co., retiring in 1998. He attended Firelands Baptist Church and enjoyed playing bluegrass music on his guitar, gardening, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine "Josie" Ellis Whitt; son, James (Deborah) Whitt of Vermilion; daughter, Kristi (Kevin) Mahan of Vermilion, and granddaughter Alexis Clemons.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, at Firelands Baptist Church, 12320 State Rt. 113, Wakeman, Ohio, with Rev. Dale Smith and Rev. Guy Morton officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion, Ohio.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
