LOGAN, W.Va. — Joseph Denver Godby, 84, of Logan passed away Monday, January 13, 2014, at Trinity Health Care.
He was born March 13, 1929, at Chapmanville. Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Coffey Godby. He was a son of the late Virgil and Ella (Johnson) Godby. Also, preceding him in death was a sister Ruth Curry and brothers Naaman, Amos, and Tom.
Joe was a member of the First Christian Church where he was a former trustee, elder, & deacon. Joe was a longtime employee of Chafin Coal Company where he operated the preparation plant and was a member of the UMWA. An avid golfer, Joe was a former member of the Riverview Country Club where he made two holes-in-one. He loved attending sporting events, particularly all Chapmanville High School games.
He is survived by a daughter, Jana Godby Spano, and a grandson, P.J. Spano, both of Logan. Joe is also survived by several nephews and nieces including Danny (Debbie) Godby, David (Jennifer) Godby, Jack Browning, Sherrie Browning Mullins and Wilma Curry Adams.
Funeral services will be conducted at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Danny Godby and Rev. Andy Wade officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be members of the First Christian Church of Logan. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church of Logan.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Trinity Health Care that have provided excellent care to Joe the last five years since his accident particularly Amanda, Carol, Rachel, Gail, and Lilly.
