LOGAN, W.Va. — Mark Dewayne Dowden II, 31, of Logan, departed this life Monday, September 2, 2013.
He was the precious son of Lisa Ellison, along with her husband Larry Ellison, and the late Mark Dowden.
Preceding him in death were his grandfathers, Lee Hipshire Sr., Donald Curry, and Clifford Dowden; his loving grandmother, Zona Dowden, and a special aunt, Linda Hipshire.
Markie was a 2001 graduate of Logan High School where he excelled in baseball. He was a proud member of the 2000 and 2001 state championship teams. While at LHS he was also voted to the all-state team and all conference teams. He went on to play one season of collegiate baseball with the WVSU Yellow-Jackets. He loved to hunt and fish and was previously employed by Rio Group Coal. His soft heart and contagious smile will be missed by many.
Additional survivors include his loving grandmother, Donna Curry; sister and brother-in-law, Kelli and Josh Vance of Lyburn; the lights of his life, Taylor and Baylee Vance, and Jaida Frye; aunts and uncles: Barb (Wendell) Ooten, Harry Hipshire, Ronnie (Connie) Hipshire, Lee (Tammy) Hipshire, Kay (Jerry) Frye, Niwonnia (Mick) Baisden and Janice Maynard. He also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday September 6, at James Funeral Home with Rev. Roscoe Chafin, Rev. Mike Brown and Willie Ooten officiating. Burial will follow in Chambers Cemetery at Rum Creek.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
