Joseph Bazzilla Sr. (1926 - 2014)

HOLDEN, W.Va. — Joseph Bazzilla Sr. of Holden passed away at his home, surrounded by his family and friends, Thurs., March 20, 2014.

Born Sept. 10, 1926, he was a son of the late Tony and Letha Gallo Bazzilla. Joe was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlo Bazzilla and John Bazzilla, and three sisters, Julia Ann Vargo, Rose Ann Murphy, and Mary Richards.

Joe was a lifetime and faithful member to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Holden and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Logan. A veteran, he was a U.S. Army Sergeant serving during World War II. For a living, Joe worked for Island Creek Store Warehouse as a truck driver and later as the warehouse manager. He was a devoted Catholic, family man, and a loving "papaw" to his grandchildren, Lauryn and Josh.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mancie "Connie" Harrell Bazzilla; two sons, Joseph Bazzilla, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Steven (Kelly) Bazzilla of Chapmanville, and two grandchildren, Lauryn and Joshua Bazzilla.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Mon., March 24, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Logan with Father Yesu Golla officiating. Burial, with Military Graveside Rites, will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

The family would like to welcome everyone back to the church for a dinner following the burial. Friends may call on the family from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Honaker Funeral Home with Scripture Readings at 8 p.m.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church building fund.
