WHITMAN, W.Va. — Reather Fields, 73, of Whitman, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 27, 2013.
Born March 11, 1940, in Logan, he was a son of the late Paris and Dora Fields.
Reather was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He spent his days at the Odds Fellows Club, going to flea markets and spending time with his family and friends. Reather was a Marine and a 25-year Army veteran. He served in Vietnam November 1966 to November 1967 and October 1971 to June 1972. He also served in Germany between 1968 and 1971. He was in the 3rd battalion of the 18th artillery and 197th military police.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Brenda Fields; children, Delbert (Paula) Fields of Verdunville, Reather Jr. (Peggy) Fields of Mill Creek, Michelle Fields of St. Albans, Roberta Tomblin and Austin Fields, both of Mud Fork, Scott Fields of Coral Gables, Fla., John Fields of Tennessee and Reanna Thorne of Alabama; nine grandchildren Sam, Wesley, Amy, Kieran, Kennedy, Megan, Shana, Robert and Michael, and a host of great-grandchildren, other family and friends. He will be dearly missed and loved by many.
Services will be held at noon Friday, August 30, at James Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
